MILBRIDGE – John L. Hall, 80, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at his home in Milbridge. He was born Oct. 27, 1923, in Milbridge, the son of Orrin and Judith (Sprague) Hall. John was educated in Milbridge schools, and graduated from Lee Academy in Lee. He served in the Navy during World War II, where he was stationed in Hawaii. After the war, John returned to Milbridge and went to work for Robert Whitten at Frankenstein’s Five and Dime. He worked there for many years, before he became an owner of the business. John retired in the 1980’s, and since then had kept busy as a lobster fisherman. He was a 32nd degree Mason, Scottish Rite, and was a member of Pleides Lodge No. 173, AF & AM in Milbridge, and the Anah Temple Shrine in Bangor. John was also a member of VFW Post No. 109 in Ellsworth. He is survived by a son, Lyle Hall and his wife, Elizabeth, of Gardiner; six grandchildren, Galen, Devon, and Audrey Hall, all of Gardiner, Anthony, Bruce and Michelle Hall, all of Milbridge; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Althea Griffin and Mary Peterson, both of Florida, Madelyn Mitchell of Gorham, and Phyllis Butler of Allenstown, N.H.; a sister-in-law, Beryl Cummings of Southwest Harbor; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will also be missed by special friends, Billy and Roberta Sawyer, and Francis Millett. John was predeceased by his wife, Muriel M. (Holland) Hall; a son, Bruce S. Hall; and brothers and sisters, Nancy, Natalie, Helen, Jim, Orrin, and George. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Milbridge. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Milbridge.
