WALDOBORO – George Herbert Rooker, 59, a resident of the Caster Road died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004, at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, after fighting a courageous battle with heart disease. His loving family was at his side. Mr. Rooker was born March 29, 1945, in Warrington, N.C., the son of George and Josephine Rooker, and graduated from John Graham High School in Warringtion. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Rooker was employed with the Railroad Company, served as acting Police Chief for Thomaston for a year then served as a police officer from 1974 to 1976; served as a town dispatcher from 1976 to 1977; worked at the tannery in Rockland until 1982, worked for Marriners Paving; and in the maintenance division at Fieldcrest Manor, where he met and later married his wife, Lolita Webber. He most recently worked security at MBNA until his failing health forced him to retire. He was member and Past Master of Orient Lodge No. 15 AF & AM in Thomaston, Kora Shrine Temple in Lewiston and former member of the Federated Church in Thomaston. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who enjoyed living life to the fullest, hunting, fishing, woodworking, and was always making something. He was predeceased by a stepson, Arthur Webber. Survivors include his wife of eight years, Lolita Witham Rooker of Waldoboro; his mother, Josephine Rooker of Henderson, N.C.; a daughter, Erin Rooker Smith “Sweatpea” and her husband, Shaun, of Warren; stepdaughters, Karen Wheelock and family of Eddington, Wanda Webber of Damariscotta, Sonja Webber of Nobleboro, Faith Brazier of Waldoboro, Melinda Martel of New Hampshire; two sisters, Paulette Greenway and husband, Wallace, of Henderson, N.C.; Diane Moss of Wilmington, N.C.; stepgrandchildren, Catilyn Brazier, Mikayla Brazier “Precious”, both of Waldoboro, Austin Martel of New Hampshire; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at the Hall Funeral Home, Main Street, Waldoboro, with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. officiated by the Brethren of Orient Lodge No. 15, AF & AM. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, at the funeral home. Interment will be in German Cemetery, Waldoboro.
