MILLINOCKET – George P. Burby Sr., 83, died Thursday, June 12, 2008, at a Millinocket hospital. He was born April 2, 1925, in Ashland, son of Percy and Anne (Morrow) Burby. George was a lumberjack for Great Northern Paper Co., for 22 years as a young man. He then moved to Connecticut for a few years, then moved back to Maine, where he worked as a lumberman for many years. George loved to hunt and fish, and was a very skilled carpenter. He is survived by six children; five daughters, Diana Mitchell of Barefoot Bay, Fla., Jeanette T. Willey of New Haven, Conn., Carol Pagnozzi and her husband, Gary, of Shelton, Conn., Helen “Lynn” Belair and her husband, Raymond, of Milford, Conn., and Anne Marie Demers and her husband, Michael, of North, Va.; one son, George Burby Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Portage Lake; a brother, Irving Morrow and his wife, Shirley, of Millinocket; a sister, Geneva “Jean” Michaud of Medway; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. George was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Jeanette (Baker) Burby in 2007. Friends are invited to visit with the family 9-10:30 a.m. Monday, June 16, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 112 Maine Ave., Millinocket, with the Rev. Joel Cyr, pastor, presider. Graveside committal services will be held 2 p.m. at East Millinocket Cemetery. Gifts in memory of George may be sent to Katahdin Area Support Group, 10 Field St., Millinocket, ME 04462.
