BANGOR and HUDSON George P. Hobart, 79, died May 13, 2005, at a Bangor hospital, after a cour-ageous battle with his illness. He was born Sept. 14, 1925, in Rockingham, Vt., the son of George and Thelma (Warrall) Hobart. He was a proud World War II Army/Air Force veteran. George was owner and operator of movie theaters in Dexter and Ellsworth, he owned and operated the Pine Cone Restaurant in Dexter, owned and operated Hobart’s Lunch in Old Town, was vice president of Worlco Travel, president of Welcome Aboard Travel of Bangor, Inc., state supervisor of Keystore State Hospital Service Agency, vice president of Keystore Management Services Inc., state manager of World Mutual Health and Accident Insurance Co. of Pennsylvania, vice president of World Life Health and Accident Insurance Co. of Pennsylvania. He was owner and president of F & G Hobart Insurance Agency, Inc. since 1966. He was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 1287 of Old Town, the American Legion, Maine Life Underwriters, National Association of Life Underwriters, and associate regional director of the International Association of Accident and Health Underwriters. George instituted many civic events in Old Town including parades and children’s plays. He enjoyed serving, socializing with people, good conversation, and was noted for his humor and quick wit. He also enjoyed traveling, and summers at his camp. He is survived by his wife, Constance (Steeves) Hobart of Bangor; stepdaughter and her husband, Jennifer and David Kelley of North Carolina, and their two daughters, Kathryn and Gabrielle; stepdaughter-in-law, Marsha Hallett of Sunset, and her children, Stephen, Danielle, Justin, Alexis, and Benjamin; and a special niece, Linda Dorr; and several other nieces, nephews; and also “Crunch” his 22 year parrot companion. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Flora (Shattuck) Hobart; and his stepson, Jeffrey Hallett. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 16, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Rudolph Leveille, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor following the interment.
