MONTVILLE – George Thompson, 84, of Montville, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, at an Augusta healthcare facility. He was born Feb. 6, 1920, in Sears-mont, the son of Chandler and Ethel (Moore) Thompson. George served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. He was a supervisor for 15 years at the Iron Works in Augusta. George enjoyed hunting, fishing, ice fishing, and especially reading. He also taught himself German and French. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Liberty. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Robert, Emery, Chandler, Ruth and Frances. George is survived by his wife, Phyllis Foy Thompson; his daughter, Marie Pottle of Lakeland, Fla.; two sisters, Jean Rollins and husband, Al, of Skowhegan, and Joan Faulkingham and husband, Fred, of Searsport; four grandchildren, Richard Barnard III, Jeanine Tucker, Matthew Barnard and Leigh Barnard; and eight great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, at the Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast, where a funeral will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will follow at the Mt. Repose Cemetery, Montville. A Masonic service will be held during the visiting hours on Tuesday. Those wishing to make memorial donations may do so to the charity of your choice.
