WILBRAHAM, Mass. and NEW LIMERICK – George Van Tasel, 80, died Oct. 28, 2006, in Massachusetts. He was born Jan. 10, 1926, in Houlton, the son of Carl and Helen (Hackett) Van Tasel. He formerly owned Van’s Service Center, Enfield, Conn., and Van’s Hydraulic and Small Engine Service, Houlton. He was a World War II Navy veteran and was past commander of Post No. 47 American Legion of Houlton. He is survived by his two sons, George Van Tasel Jr. and his wife, Alice, of Somers, Conn., and Brian Van Tasel and his wife, Patricia, of Phoenix. He also leaves four grandchildren, Kerri Brunt and her husband, Jay, of Branford, Conn., Timothy Van Tasel and his wife, Jennifer, of Windsor, Conn., Thomas Van Tasel of Somers, Conn., and Jennifer Van Tasel of Phoenix; two great-grandchildren, Jack Brunt and Emma Van Tasel; his sister, RuthAnn Grant of Houlton; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Winifred; a sister, Edwina; and brothers, Leslie and Richard. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at New Limerick Cemetery with the Rev. David Tuttle officiating. Arrangements are being made by Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water St., Houlton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
