1983 photo ELLSWORTH – George W. Mitchell, 80, died July 3, 2007, of pancreatic cancer, at his residence. Mr. Mitchell was born May 22, 1927, in Limestone, the son of Bryant and Mildred (Willey) Mitchell. After graduating from Limestone High School and Ricker College, he worked for the Army Corp of Engineers for several years. He then founded, owned and operated Mitchell Redi-Mix Concrete & Construction Co. In 1981, after selling his business, he joined Sargent Real Estate as an associate broker and was active in the business until his death. George was a longtime member and past president of the Ellsworth Rotary Club, a past director of the Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce, and a past director of the YMCA. George W. Mitchell is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Janice Sargent Mitchell of Ellsworth; two sons, Dennis B. Mitchell and his wife, Linda, of Winchester, Mass, and David W. Mitchell and Kelli Frost of Ellsworth; one sister, Dawn Kent of Houston; one grandson, Tyler Mitchell of Ellsworth; his father-in-law, Casper G. Sargent Jr. of Ellsworth; brother-in-law, Daniel W. Sargent and Beverly Grindle of Ellsworth; sisters-in-law, Anne S. Lusby and her husband, Carl, of Ellsworth, Teresa L.S. Smith and her husband, Douglas, of Ellsworth, Jean E. Sargent of Brunswick, and Ruth M. Sargent of Freeport; and 15 nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his parents, Bryant and Mildred Mitchell; his first wife, Ann M. Mitchell; and his mother-in-law, Teresa L. Sargent. A reception in George’s honor will be held 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, July 15, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, with a toast in George’s honor at high noon. Private interment will be held at Woodbine Cemetery, Ells-worth.
