FRANKLIN – Gerald A. “Getch” Getchell, 84, died Wed-nesday, March 10, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. He was born July 14, 1919, in Patten, the son of Clarence D. and Lillian M. (Bates) Getchell. Getch was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the Army. He was a rural mail carrier in Franklin and Eastbrook for many years, retiring in 1981 with 30 years of service. Getch was a member of the Franklin Veteran’s Club and was a member of the National Association of Rural Mail Carriers. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marjorie G. (Bunker) Getchell; a daughter, Faye Havey and her husband, Richard; three grandchildren, Dick Havey and his wife, Diane, Wayne Havey and his wife, Julie, and Mark Havey; four great-granddaughters, Melissa, Cheryl, Emily, and Heather Havey, all of Franklin; a sister, Iris Crommett of Clinton, Conn.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Getch was predeceased by four brothers, Aleck, Glenwood, Wesley, and Hadley Getchell; and by a sister, Ada Smith. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 215 Main St., Ellsworth with the Rev. Brenda Leclerc officiating. Interment will be at Bayview Cemetery, Franklin. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Getch may be sent to the Franklin Volunteer Fire Department, or to the charity of one’s choice.
