MARS HILL – Gerald A. Grass, 85, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2006, at a Presque Isle hospital. He was born Jan. 4, 1921, in Mars Hill, the son of William and Mary (Redstone) Grass. Jake was born on the family farm and attended local schools growing up. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines. He farmed for many years on the family farm and in later years worked for Smith Farms. Jake enjoyed playing cribbage, doing crossword puzzles and riding his four-wheeler. He was a member of the American Legion William Cousins Post No. 118 and a longtime member of the Faith Baptist Chapel, Blaine. He is survived by a daughter, Judy Lunn and her husband, Kenneth, of Mars Hill; a son, Philip Grass and his wife, Lorena, of Millinocket; seven grandchildren, Sharon Parker of Bow, N.H., Terry Lunn of Sugar Hill, Ga., Brian Lunn of Sabattus, Nancy Clockedile of Mars Hill, Heidi Levesque of Mars Hill, Alan Grass of Sabattus, Michelle King of Scarborough; 18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy (Terrell) Grass; eight brothers, Alton, Maurice, Williard, Ernie, Harry, Kent, Merle and Perley; two sisters, Nora Wortman and Lena Benson. The family thanks the staff at Southern Acres Boarding Home for all their compassion and care during Jake’s time there. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Faith Baptist Chapel, Blaine, with the Rev. Robert Chamberlain and Pastor Lawrence Beals officiating. Friends may call noon until time of service. Interment will take place after the service at Pierce Cemetery.
