DEER ISLE – Gerald Martin Eaton, 93, died Aug. 24, 2007, at a Deer Isle health care facility. He was born Jan. 20, 1914, in Deer Isle, the son of P.J. and Ethel (Small) Eaton. Gerald worked as a master welder until his retirement. He was a life long member of Sunset Congregational Church and a life member of the Marine Masonic Lodge No. 122, AF & AM, Deer Isle/Stonington. Gerald was also a life member of Rodney Stinson American Legion Post No. 102, Deer Isle/Stonington, where he received his 60-year pin for continuous membership and was also a past post commander. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Vernette (Noyes) Eaton; two sons, Raymond Eaton and Howard Eaton and his friend, Vicki; three daughters, Jane and her husband, Bill Conary, Sandra and her husband, Paul Venno and Anita Baldwin; four grandchildren, Aaron Eaton, Nathan Venno, Deb Ludlow and Sherri Venno; three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Sunset Congregational Church, Sunset Road, Deer Isle, with Elder A. Dowe Eaton officiating.
