HAMPDEN – Geraldine Marie (Bass) Emerson, 82, passed away Aug. 26, 2007, at York Manor assisted living, Biddeford. She was born June 9, 1925, in Bangor, the daughter of Philip F. and Elsie (Daggett) Bass. Gerry grew up in Bangor and attended John Bapst High School. She moved to Hampden in the early ’50s, where she and her husband, Delmont, raised their son, Daniel. Gerry was an active and devoted member of St. Matthews Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic minister for many years. Her “mail ministry” touched many lives. For years she volunteered at Roe Village, serving meals. Gerry was known as a hugger because she loved to hug everyone. She enjoyed traveling and watching movies with her friends, as well as spending time with her feline companion, ‘Miss Kitty.” Her son and his family were the most important part of her life and she loved to talk about them and visit with them in South Berwick. Gerry will be remembered as a generous and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She is survived by her son, Daniel D. Emerson of South Berwick; daughter-in-law, Deb-bie Emerson; two grandchildren, Taylor and Jordan Emerson, both of South Berwick; sister, Pauline Bass of Tucson, Ariz.; brother-in-law, Glenwood Emerson of Austin, Texas; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Delmont in 1985; a sister, Beatrice Colston; and brother, Raymond Bass. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Matthews Catholic Church, 70 Western Ave., Hampden, with the Rev. Robert Vaillancourt, pastor, celebrant. Interment will be in the family lot at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor. In keeping with Gerry’s love for her church, memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthews Catholic Church, P.O.
