GERMAINE FOURNIER ANGEL

LARGO, Fla. – Germaine Fournier Angel, 74, died May 23, 2008, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, Scarborough, after a brief illness. Born Germaine Marie-Mae Levesque, May 17, 1934, on the family homestead in Seigas, New Brunswick, she was the third of 10 children, born to Louis and Cedulie “Sadie” (Dionne) Levesque. Germaine was raised and lived most of her life in Van Buren, where her family moved when she was a very small child. She attended Van Buren schools and was a proud graduate of her local adult education program in 1971, one year before her oldest daughter’s own high school graduation. With her first husband, Martin L. Fournier, she raised her five children. Shortly after his unexpected death, Sept. 1, 1982, she relocated to Southern Maine in order to be closer to her children. It was through her daughter, Monique, that she met her second husband, Ted Angel. They were married in Florida in 1993 and spent many happy years in Lake Wales, Fla., until his death, Nov. 29, 2001. After his death, Germaine remained in Lake Wales, Fla., until three separate hurricanes in 2004, and flooding from Saddlebag Lake in 2005 forced her to leave her home there. She relocated to Largo, Fla., where she lived for a short time with her sister, Annette, while she started her life over after losing her home and all of her belongings. Germaine lived in Largo, Fla., until illness forced her to make this last trip “home” on Easter Sunday. Prior to this, she returned to Maine every summer to relax, spend time with her kids and the grandkids that she adored. Germaine was previously employed at the Portland Jetport bookstore, until her move to Florida. She worked many years in retail sales, most recently in the jewelry department of Wal-Mart, in both Lake Wales and Largo, Fla. In addition to the time spent with her large immediate and extended family, Germaine was an avid reader, loved playing bridge, bingo and scrabble, especially against her sister, Annette, bowling, American Idol, silly movies, cooking up sweets and fudge, hanging out with her grandchildren and having her first Maine lobster and Pier Fries of the season every summer. Large family gatherings in Connecticut or at her daughter’s home in Kennebunk, were another of her favorite things. In addition to both spouses, Germaine was predeceased by her parents; her baby sister, Anne, in 1951; a son-in-law, Arnie Bushner, March 31, 2008; a nephew, Jason Levesque, in 2005; and a very dear friend and “sister,” Lois Finn, in 2005. She is survived by one son, William Fournier of Portland; four daughters, Jennifer and John Hackett of Kennebunk; Sharon Bushner of Old Orchard Beach, Monique Fournier of Scarborough and Tina Fournier of Fort Fairfield. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Dana Hackett of Somerville, Mass., Kyle Hackett of Portland, Casey Hackett of Somerville, Mass., Lauren Silva of Biddeford Pool, Molly Bushner of Portland, Leah Bushner of Rhode Island, Maegan, Tyler and Gabriel Laplante of Scarborough, and Keagen Fournier-Flannery of Fort Fairfield; two brothers, Roger and Emily Levesque, and Norman Levesque of Connecticut; six sisters, Rita Levesque, Nora Belanger, Gertrude and Del Levesque, all of Connecticut, Rolande and Edison Morehouse, Annette Caron, all of Florida, and Lucille and Richard Garcia of California; a very dear cousin and friend, Joan Thomas of Fort Fairfield; as well numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and countless friends in Maine and Florida. Memorial visiting hours will be held 1-4 p.m. Saturday at Cote Funeral Home, Saco. Burial will be at a later date.
