GERTRUDE B. PLUMMER NEWPORT – Gertrude B. Plummer, 98, died Jan. 20, 2004, at a Pittsfield healthcare facility, following a long illness. She was born Jan. 18, 1906, in Woburn, Mass., the daughter of Roscoe A. and Fayette (McPherson) Barden. She was a graduate of Brooks High School and of the Augusta General Hospital School of Nursing, where she received her R.N. She was married to Milton Plummer who died July 13, 1964. Mrs. Plummer was a member of the High Street Congregational Church in Newport, and also a member of the Alliance of the Church. She was a member and Past Matron of Nokomis Chapter No. 42 Order of the Eastern Star, Newport. She was also a past District Deputy of District 16. A few days before her death, Gertrude was presented a certificate for being Newport’s oldest citizen. She is survived by three sons, Ronald C. Plummer of Newport and Florida, Howard A. Plummer of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Alvin B. Plummer of Leesburg, Fla.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson. Public Order of the Eastern Star services will be conducted 10 a.m. Monday, May 17, 2004, at the Brown Funeral Home, with officers and members of Nokomis Chapter officiating. Immediately following the Eastern Star services funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home with Pastor Al Worden officiating. Burial will be in the family lot Riverside Cemetery, Newport.
