BREWER – Gertrude V. Bowden, 95, wife of Merle S. Bowden, died Nov. 28, 2007, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Oct. 12, 1912, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Meint H. and Nellie (Verheyen) Van Dyk. Surviving in addition to her husband of Bangor, are two children, Theresa Jane Arms and her husband, Daniel, of Phillips and John T. Bowden of Asia; five grandchildren, Jay T. Frieberg and his wife, Carol, of Asia, Todd Frieberg and his wife, Patty, of Cape Elizabeth, Christopher Foster and his wife, Jennifer, of Westbrook, Jesse Foster and Nicholas Foster, both of Ellsworth; three great-grandchildren, Anna and Kate Frieberg and Timothy Foster; a son-in-law, Stephen Foster of Ellsworth; two sisters, Jane McMahon of Cumberland and Martha Savage of South Carolina; one brother, John Van Dyk of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Constance H. Foster in 2006. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor, with the Rev. Grace Bartlett, pastor of the First Congregational Church, UCC, Brewer, presiding. Those attending are asked to gather 12:45 p.m. at the cemetery superintendent’s office, State Street entrance.
