FORT MYERS, FLA. and SOUTHWEST HARBOR – Gherald Dean Scott, 79, of Fort Myers, Fla., previously of Southwest Harbor, died at his home of cancer, on June 23, 2005. He was born Feb. 14, 1926, in Detroit, Mich., the son of Gherald D. Sr. and Helen Benedict Scott. Gerald was a World War II veteran. He graduated from Worcester Academy and Babson College and had a successful career as head of finance and a member of the board of directors for several major companies in the chemical industry. He actively gave back to the community through volunteering with organizations such as the Cub Scouts and Little League. Gherald retired to Southwest Harbor before moving to Fort Myers, Fla. He is survived by his wife, Anna E. (Gross) Scott of Fort Myers, Fla.; sons, Robert Scott, Gherald D. Scott III; stepsons, Todd and Mark Gifford; stepdaughter, Louanne Littlefield; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a brother, W. James Scott; several nieces and nephews. Gherald was predeceased by his first wife, Nancy McCormick Scott and sister, Beverly Scott Farley. Friends are invited to call 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2005, at Jordan-Fernald Funeral Home, 1139 Main St., Mt. Desert, where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Peter Remick officiating. Interment will be at Brookside Cemetery, Mt. Desert.
