OLD TOWN – Gilberta Marie Cust, 90, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning Feb. 2, 2005, at an Orono healthcare facility surrounded by her family. She was born March 4, 1914, in Old Town, a daughter of the late Magloire and Catherine (Martin) Pelletier. In Gilberta’s younger years, she was an avid swimmer, expert diver and she enjoyed hunting and boating. Gilberta loved playing the piano, accordion and the organ. She was a member and past Grand Master of the Grange. Gilberta was a very gifted expert in coloring old black and white pictures by free hand. She loved working in crafts with small beads, seashells and other intricate materials. She also spent much of her life working in her beloved gardens. When Gilberta died, her daughter, Carolyn; grandchildren, Carrie, Rhonda and her husband, Fred, Jessica and Shawn, were all by her side. Her son, Harlan, and his wife, Carole, who were vacationing in Florida, flew back in time to be with Gilberta before she passed away. Gilberta was and her family is especially thankful and grateful for the Assisted Living Staff at Orono Commons for their friendship and professional care. She is survived by a son, Harlan R. Cust and his wife, Carol, of Old Town; a daughter, Carolyn Cust of Old Town; seven grandchildren, Carrie Gallant and her husband, Tim, Rhonda Carter and her husband, Fred, Shawn LaBree, Jessica LaBree, Robert Cust and his wife, Melinda, Scott Cust, Michele Kauppila and her husband, Jim; nine great- grandchildren, Kenneth Carter, Katilyn Carter, D. Scott Cust, Torrey Cust, Emily Skyler Cust, Daniel Cust, Wesley Kauppila, Christopher Kauppila and Myranda LaBree. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert; and a daughter Linda LaBree. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 1 p.m. Saturday at Holy Family Parish with the Rev. Rudolph Leveille, Celebrant. Friends and family are invited to the Holy Family Parish Hall immediately following the Mass for a luncheon and continued fellowship. Spring interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Old Town.
