PALMYRA – Gladys C. Preble, 78, went to be with the Lord following a long illness Jan. 3, 2006, at a Pittsfield hospital. She was born July 9, 1927, in Princeton, the daughter of Fred E. and Cora L. (Fitch) Corbett. She spent most of her life as a homemaker. Her hobby was raising and working with many beautiful houseplants. She was predeceased by her husband, Elwin “Slim” Preble; a special daughter, Betty Cole; a son, Elwin Preble Jr.; and nine brothers and sisters. She is survived by two sons and their wives, Marvin and Diane Preble of Lamoine, Terrance and Donna Preble of Pittsfield; two daughters, Delores Badejo of Newport, Maria Preble and her partner, Pamela McCue, of Old Town; 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Gladys spent her last few months coping with emphysema and blindness and these months were made much easier by the comfort of knowing she would soon be with the Lord and that she was constantly surrounded by the care and love of her daughter, Delores and the members of her church who surrounded her with love.
