FRENCHVILLE and HOULTON – Glen G. Wylie, 49, born on Jan. 21, 1955, in Edmundston, New Brunswick, Canada, died unexpectedly in Houlton, Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2004. He was the son of the late Austin W. Wylie and Rita (Labrie) Wylie of Frenchville. Glen was educated in local schools in Frenchville and St. Agatha, and was a graduate of the University of Maine at Fort Kent. He worked for the State of Maine as an employee and store manager for various Maine State Liquor Stores throughout the state, including Presque Isle, Fort Kent, Van Buren, Portland and other locations. He eventually transferred to the Department of Human Services where he was employed as an intake worker in Houlton. Glen was an avid fly-fisherman and amateur wooden boat builder. His knowledge of northern Maine’s streams, rivers and ponds defied comparison, and his love for the sport of fly-fishing, learned and practiced since childhood, bordered on religion. He took up building wooden boats to complement fishing and with his brother, built several McKenzie river dories and small sailboats. He was a perfectionist with finishes, doting on the minutia and last details that go into completing a boat. He was the ideal outdoor companion, taking weather and black flies in their stride, alternately waxing enthusiastic and philosophical about the things he knew and loved. He will be missed. He is survived by his sister, Dawn Marie Bragdon and her husband, George, of Madawaska; three brothers, Bryan Wylie and his wife, Karen, of Caribou, Andrew Wylie and his companion, Theodora Reed, of South Portland, and David Wylie and his companion, Darleen Coltart, of St. David; several nieces and nephews, G.H. and Austin Bragdon, Jennifer and Sarah Wylie and Austin and Anna Wylie. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Daigle Funeral Home in Madawaska. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until time of services.
