ELLSWORTH and LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. – Glen James Curtis, 61, died peacefully Aug. 3, 2008. Glen was born April 9, 1947, in Concord, N.H., a son of Robert J. and Beverley B. Curtis. He worked as an engineer for New England Telephone Co., for 26 years and retired 11 years ago and moved from Winterport to Florida. He attended the University of North Dakota, where he met and married Beverly Bakkegard. He graduated from Kansas State University and Husson College with honors. Glen was named Volunteer of the Year by the YMCA of Bangor. He had a passion for sailing on Branch Lake, skiing with family and friends, working in the apple orchard and carpentry. Above all, he loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Bev; their son, Dr. Blaine Curtis and his wife, Monica, of Rockland; their daughter, Melanie Curtis Smith and her husband, Jeffrey, of Honolulu; his brother, Stephen Curtis and his wife, Michaele; and his mother, Beverley B. Curtis, all of Barnstead, N.H. Dear to Glen were his cousins; and his wife’s family in North Dakota and South Dakota. Private family services will be held in late summer.
