GLENNA HARTLEY RUSH BANGOR – Glenna H. Rush, 81, passed away May 5, 2004, at a Bangor healthcare facility after a prolonged illness. She was born and raised in Bridgewater, the daughter of Samuel and Clara (Gardiner) Hartley. A graduate of Colby College, Mrs. Rush taught English in Aroostook County Schools most of her working years, retiring from Hermon High School. She did spend some additional years working with the American Red Cross in the area of Disaster Relief Services. Glenna appreciated good literature, classical music and the arts. In her retirement years she volunteered with a number of organizations including serving as a Dothan for the Maine Forestry and Logging Museum. Glenna was a strong supporter of the Bangor Symphonic Orchestra, the St. Joseph’s Indian School, and various types of medical research. Glenna dedicated her life to building character and culture in Maine. As a teacher she held her students to high standards of achievement and conduct. As an appreciator of Maine history, classical music and the arts, she dedicated her time and talent to building opportunities for cultural and historical appreciation in Maine. She will be remembered for her fierce independence, her tireless work ethic, high expectations, warm hospitality, enduring friendships and keen sense of humor. Glenna is survived by her son, Robert Rush and his wife, Paula, of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; two grandchildren, Vanessa Rush of Millinocket and Ursula Rush of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; brother, Richard Hartley and his wife, Linda, and their family of Newburgh; her many very special friends that were with her until the end.
