PORTLAND and SELDON – Glennis (Dwyer) Bell, 88, of Portland, passed away peacefully April 17, 2005, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born Jan. 25, 1917, in Seldon, the daughter of George and Ida (Coffee) Dwyer. She attended schools in Seldon and Danforth. Glennis was an avid outdoors enthusiast. In her younger years, she was a pitcher for her home town baseball team and a Boston Red Sox fan all her life. She greatly enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, gardening, and playing horse shoes. She dearly loved to recite poetry for people. Her favorite was “The Third Man”, a poem about Jesus on the cross. She was a member of the Greater Portland Church of Christ. She greatly enjoyed the fellowship of all her Christian friends, and all her many friends in the community. One of Glennis’ greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren. In 1939, she married Kenneth Lee. They lived in Orient, until 1958, when Kenneth passed away. Later, she married Allen Bell and lived in Mars Hill until 1970. After his death, she moved to Portland and lived with her sister, Doris Lawler. Glennis is survived by a son, Roger and his wife, Mary Lee, of Portland and Brewer; four grandchildren, Laurie and her husband, Cameron Hale, of Henderson, Tenn., Diane and her husband, Austin Kinney Jr., of Houlton, Beverly and her husband, Ira Adams, of Brewer, and Roger “Kenny” Lee Jr. and his fianc?e, Sandi Boyce, of Cornville; nine grandchildren, Mary, Roger, and Cameron Hale, Nicholas and Quinn Kinney, Aric Williams, Kathryn Adams, Erica and Jonathan Flewelling; a stepdaughter, Marjorie Bell of Caribou; and a stepson, Clifford Bell of Charleston; a brother, Hartley and his wife, Christina Dwyer, of Weston; and a sister, Dola Lilley of Linneus; numerous stepgrandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. Glennis was predeceased by two brothers, Stanley and Monty Dwyer; three sisters, Myrtle Bragdon, Kathryn Genthner and Doris Lawler. Visitation will be held 12-1 p.m. Wednesday at the Clay Funeral Home-Bartlett Chapel in Danforth, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, with Albert Durgin officiating. Interment will be at the Seldon Cemetery. Glennis’ nephew, Emery Dwyer will officiate. The family invites family and friends to share conversation, memories and refreshments immediately after at the Haynesville Baptist Church.
