WOOLWICH – Gordon Haliburton Falt Jr., 80, of Day’s Ferry, died Thurs- day, Sept. 6, 2007, at Maine Medical Center, Portland. He was born July 7, 1927, at Hulls Cove, a son of Gordon H. and Agnes M. (Hall) Falt Sr. He was raised in Northeast Harbor, graduated from Gilman High School in 1945 and from Maine Maritime Academy in 1947. Gordon served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953 and retired as a captain from the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1977. He met his wife, Ruth Lloyd, in the military and they married Feb. 25, 1953. In 1954 he graduated from the University of Maine in Orono, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He was employed at Hyde Windless, Bath and Bath Iron Works for 30 years, retiring as director of Naval Marketing. Gordon served as a past board member at the Bath YMCA, The Plant Home, Bath; the Maine State Museum, Aug-usta; the Steam Boat Katahdin, Greenville; The Neighborhood House, Northeast Harbor; and a corporator of Bath Savings Institution. He was a member of Day’s Ferry Congregational Church, Day’s Ferry Community Club and served on various committees at Maine Maritime Academy. On March 13, 1999, he was predeceased by his wife, Ruth L. Falt. He is survived by three sons, Robert L. Falt of Northeast Harbor, Daniel J. Falt of Northeast Harbor and Thomas W. Falt and his wife, Jeanne, of Mount Desert; five grandchildren; and a special friend, Marcia L. Smith of Woolwich. A memorial service was held 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, at Day’s Ferry Congregational Church, Woolwich, where the Rev. Jill Small officiated. Burial will be held at Forrest Hills Cemetery, Northeast Harbor. A gathering of family and friends will be after next to the church at the Johnson Building. Memorial contributions may be made to Bath YMCA, Day’s Ferry Congregational Church, Woolwich or the Neighborhood House, Northeast Harbor. Arrangements are by Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High St., Bath.
