DOVER-FOXCROFT – Gordon R. “Stubby” Robinson Jr., 75, loving husband to Sandra (Doe) Robinson, passed on to the greatest hunting and fishing of all May 9, 2007, at his home. He was born July 13, 1931, in Carthage, the son of Gordon R. and Elsie Mae (Judkins) Robinson. Stubby graduated from Foxcroft Academy, Class of 1949. During his time there he excelled in sports, including football, basketball and baseball. Stubby played on the Rockets semi pro basketball and baseball teams. He married Margaret Ward and they had four children. For many years he managed P. E. Ward & Co. until he purchased Koritsky’s Department Store in 1978. Stubby was active in town and civic affairs. He was a member of the Dover-Foxcroft Planning Board for six years, serving as chairman for four years and the Dover-Foxcroft Budget Committee for eight years. His love of the outdoors and his concern for the preservation of resources was instrumental in his involvement with the development of the Sebec Lake Association, and the reason he served as its charter president. During his younger years, he spent some time as a Dover-Foxcroft volunteer fireman, served on the Piscataquis Valley Fair Association and was a member of the Dover-Foxcroft Jaycees, serving at one time as Maine state vice president. Stub loved to hunt and fish with his wife, sons, and longtime friend, David Marshall, who was his hunting companion for more than 50 years. In addition to his wife of nearly 35 years, Sandra of Dover-Foxcroft, he is survived by three sons, Gordon “Bob” Robinson III, Bruce Robinson and wife, Joanna, and Mark Robinson and wife, Nancy, all of Dover-Foxcroft; a daughter, Elaine “Laney” Stanhope and husband, James, of Tampa, Fla.; a brother, Willard “Bill” Robinson of Wisconsin; six grandchildren, Gordon IV, Andrew, Kevin, Brittany, Alyssa, and Amanda; one great-granddaughter, Grace, with two more on the way; several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to share memories 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, at Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, where a celebration of life will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, May 17, with the Rev. Bea Violette officiating. Burial will be at South Dover Cemetery. Friends may leave online condolences and memories at www.laryfuneralhome.com
