BANGOR – Gwendolyn E. (Campbell) Percival, wife of George E. Percival, passed away after a long illness, Thursday morning, Dec. 30, 2004. She was born May 9, 1932, in East Corinth, the daughter of Arthur W. and Madelyn L. (Blackwell) Campbell. After graduating from East Corinth Academy in 1950, she attended Barrington College in Rhode Island. She worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone until her marriage to George Percival of Buffalo, N.Y. at Dow Air Force Base Chapel on Jan. 24, 1962. A member of Calvary Baptist Church in Brewer since the 1970s, Gwen worked in the nursery and loved cooking for church suppers. She also enjoyed lobster at Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound, playing piano, knitting, children, as well as Bangor Symphony and local music theatre performances. Gwen was instrumental in helping to revive the Bangor High School Music Boosters in the 1970s and ’80s, and enjoyed chaperoning band trips. Gwen is survived by her husband of 42 years, George Percival; her mother, Madelyn L. Campbell of East Corinth; her daughter, Amanda L. Cushman and her husband, Michael, of Bangor; two brothers, Brian R. Campbell and his wife, Sheila, of Exeter, and Keith A. Campbell and his wife, Lynne, of Farmington, N.M.; a niece, Jolynn D. Campbell of Bangor; a nephew, Jeffrey D. Campbell, his wife, Dawn, and their sons, Cole and Brody of Exeter. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at the Brookings-Smith Funeral Home, 133 Center St., Bangor. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at the Calvary Baptist Church, 61 State St., Brewer, with Pastor Roger Davis officiating. Spring interment will take place at the Corinthian Cemetery, Exeter Road, East Corinth.
