CARIBOU – Harley Kenneth Skidgel, 85, went home to be with his Lord and Savior March 26, 2006, at Caribou. He was born Oct. 19, 1920, in Woodland, the son of Henry and Victoria (McIntosh) Skidgel. Mr. Skidgel served with the U.S. Army during World War II where he received the Purple Heart. He married Mae Wilcox Nov. 14, 1945, and was a member of the North Star Pentecostal Church. He was employed for many years by Hutchinson Florist in Caribou and retired from McCain Foods in Washburn. Surviving in addition to his wife of more than 60 years, Mae of Caribou; are two sons, Kendall Skidgel of Caribou and Mayland Hartsgrove of Presque Isle; five daughters, Carla Skidgel of Perham, Sharon Curtis of Storrs, Conn., Virginia Liotonne of Connor, Georgia Mae Grantham of Somerset, Pa. and Elizabeth Maynard of Perham; one brother, Asa Skidgel of Washburn; 29 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren, 21 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Skidgel was predeceased by his parents, several brothers and sisters and two grandchildren, Henry W. Hartsgrove and Kendall Harley Skidgel II. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, from the Chapel of the Mockler Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce Blakney officiating. Interment will be in the Northern Maine Veterans’ Cemetery. After the service the family invites everyone to a time of fellowship and refreshments at Farm View Estates.
