BARING – Harold G. Carver, 82, died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at a Calais hospital. Harold was born Aug. 22, 1921, in Baring, the son of George and Bessie (Foss) Carver. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army as a truck driver and a patrolman for pipelines. Harold was employed with American Cyanamid in Wallingford, Conn., in maintenance for more than 17 years until his retirement, after which he moved back to Baring. He was a life member of Boyd-Smith VFW Post No. 9779 of Calais, a member and past commander of Sherman Bros. Post No. 3 American Legion of Calais, and the Lighthouse Church in Wallingford, Conn. Harold was known in the area for filing saws and sharpening knives at his home on Route 191. He enjoyed playing cards and attending the veteran groups. Harold was predeceased by five brothers and five sisters. Surviving are his daughter, Joan Carver of Essex Junction, Vt.; two sisters, Violet Marchitti of Edgewater, Fla., and Theoline Varney and her husband, Coleman, of Wallingford, Conn.; two grandchildren, Amy Lapierre and her husband, Richard, of Mapleville, R.I., and Emily Bennett and her husband, Lance, of Narragansett, R.I.; two great-grandchildren, Joseph and Nicholas Lapierre; and many nieces an nephews. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Scott-Wilson Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais, where funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, by Pastor James Jasinski. Burial will be at a later date in Calais Cemetery.
