FAIRFIELD – Harold “Had” Hotham, 75, formerly of Clinton, died Feb. 13, 2006, at the U.S. Veterans’ Hospital, Togus, following a long illness. Had was born May 31, 1930, in Masardis, the son of Wilbur and Mattie (White) Hotham. He grew up in Patten and Freedom and graduated from Besse High School, Albion and Higgins Preparatory Institute in Pittsfield. Had was known throughout the area as an excellent basketball and baseball player. Following school, Had joined the U.S. Air Force, where he served as a dispatcher in Japan during the Korean War. Following the war, he married Caroline Gerald on June 17, 1956 and they settled in Clinton. He worked as a woodsman, prior to taking over the family farm in Freedom where he raised potatoes for 28 years. Had was known for his good nature and love of sports. In addition to his wife of 49 years, he is survived by two sons, Larry and his wife, Dee, and their children, Miranda, Tristan and Landon, of Winslow; and Tracy of Oakland. He is also survived by his younger sister, Dorothy of Vassalboro. He was predeceased by his parents and four brothers, Wilbur Jr., Henry, Donald and Robert.
