SOUTHINGTON, CONN. and BLUE HILL – Harold James Leighton, 72, a former longtime Southington resident died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, in Dade City, Fla., after a brief illness. He was born in Blue Hill Feb. 18, 1931, the son of the late Hugh A. and Anna Davis Leighton. After his retirement in 1991 from his 37 years with Pratt and Whitney in Southington, Conn., he resided both in Surry and Florida. Harold was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of the Friendship Lodge No. 33 of Southington, a 32 Degree Mason, Scottish Rite and a member of the Sphinx Temple in Newington. In addition to his wife, Mary of 51 years, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James and Sarah Leighton; and a daughter and son-in-law, Angela and David Nadeau; three grandchildren, Heather Nadeau, Justin and Amanda Leighton, all of Southington; two brothers and their wives, Hugh and Eleanor Leighton, Sheldon and Priscilla Leighton; and one sister, Phyllis Pemberton; one aunt, Elsie Tucker, all of Blue Hill; also one uncle and wife, Robert and Jean Leighton of Parramatta, N.S.W., Australia; and one brother-in-law, George “Bud” and Jean Mullett of California; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Dec. 30, at Plantsville, Conn. Both a VFW/American Legion Service and Masonic Service were held Dec. 29. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Southington, Conn.
