FORT KENT – Julien Albert Long, 70, passed away Dec. 30, 2003, at Fort Kent, after a long illness. He was born Jan. 5, 1933, in Fort Kent, the son of Daniel and Dorilda Long. He served in the military during the Korean War and married Kyung Sook “Sue” while stationed in Japan. His military career included service with the Occupation Army in Japan, a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne, Special Forces in Germany during the construction of the Iron Curtain. He was actively engaged in the initial computerization of the Finance Corps and continued working with computers in the states. He was awarded the National Defense Service, Army Commendation and several Good Conduct medals. Returning to civilian life in 1966, he became engaged in establishing the first payroll service using Univac computers in south Florida. He relocated his family to southern California in 1975 and continued his career in the computer field. Upon retiring in 1994, he purchased the Moise Long homestead on Station Hill in Fort Kent and began renovations. He was diagnosed with lung cancer and returned to southern California for treatment at the City of Hope Cancer Research Institute. The wonderful care he received allowed him additional time to spend with his family in California and at his beloved childhood home on Station Hill. He is survived by his wife, Kyung Sook Suh; son, Andrew Albert Long, his wife, Lisa and their children, Jessica, Shane and Kayla; son, Stephen Allen Long; sisters, Corinne Keene, Doris Ermatinger, Patricia Emerson; brothers, Daniel, Allen and Gerald; and 36 nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial service 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home, 149 East Main St., Fort Kent. Formal burial services with military honors will be held in June 2004, at St. Louis Cemetery, Main Street, Fort Kent. Those who wish may donate to the Edgar J.
