BREWER – Harold O. Worcester, 87, passed away March 9, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Sept. 21, 1917, in Bangor, the daughter of Elizabeth Worcester and Harry P. Harvey, and he was raised by his grandmother, Minnie, in Southwest Harbor. Harold was a 1937 graduate of Pemetic High School, and in his younger years played the saxophone with local bands. He was an exceptional baseball player, a game he loved playing. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving on several vessels including the King Bird, USS Cecil, USS Gearing and the USS Cannon, and he continued his military career in the active reserves retiring as an ENC after 27 years. Harold is survived by two children, Harold O. Worcester Jr., and his wife, Kathy, of Somers, Conn., and Karen Zitka and her husband, Richard, of Broad Brook, Conn.; five grandchildren, Amy Todd, Rebecca LaRoche, Dawn Worcester, Dean Zitka and Leah Winterberger; two great- grandchildren, Evan and Colby Winterberger; two step-children, Joyce Dunbar and her husband, Waymouth, of Hermon, and Janice Russell of Connecticut; several step- grandchildren and great-stepgrandchildren.; one brother, Reginald Dolliver and his wife. He was predeceased by his first wife, Lucille Worcester; second wife, Helen Worcester; a stepson, William McGahay Jr.; and a sister, Constance Farley. Friends may visit 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 14, 2005, at Kiley Funeral Home, 69 State St., Brewer. A graveside service at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hermon, will be held in the spring.
