BREWER and BANGOR – Hartley Bell, 89, died Dec. 31, 2004, at the Maine Veteran’s Home. He was born Sept. 29, 1915, in Green-ville, the son of George S. and Ethel M. (Page) Bell. He grew up in Veazie and graduated from Bangor High School. Mr. Bell served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was a life-long resident of Bangor, spent summers at their cottage at Lucerne and for 20 years, winters in Casselberry, Fla. He was employed with Maine Central Railroad for more than 30 years. Mr. Bell was a member for more than 50 years of St. Andrew’s Lodge No. 83 AF & AM; Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Bangor; Maine Consistory 32 Degree; and Anah Shriners. He was also a member of the Queen City Grange. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Thelma M. (Prahm) Bell of Brewer; one daughter, Donna Lawlor and her husband, Bill, of Brewer; six stepgrandchildren, Joseph Lawlor, Christopher Lawlor, Ann Dennis, Patricia Kennard, Theresa Lawlor, Kathleen Wellman; seven great-stepgrandchildren; one sister, Virginia Wotton of Bangor; one brother, Gerald Bell of Yarmouth; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Elvenia Magee and Audrey Velmen; and two brothers, Arthur and George Bell. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer. Friends may call 1 p.m. until time of service Tuesday. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith, Reception Rooms, 55 South Main St., Brewer, following the service. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at the Maine Veteran’s Home and New Hope Hospice, for their loving care of Mr. Bell.
