CARIBOU – Harvey A. Kelley, 60, passed away July 6, 2004, at his home on the Fort Road, after a courageous battle with cancer, whom he shared with others as a “Bump In the Road” through life. He was born Oct. 1, 1943, at Portland, the son of Ralph and Hazel (Sisson) Kelley and came home to the Fort Road, where he grew up. He graduated from the Caribou High School, Class of 1963. Harvey was a farmer through out his life starting as a young boy and continued to work the land growing potatoes and other crops with his father and brother. The last 10 years, he worked for the Caribou School Department, a job he loved and was so happy to go to work each day with a smile to encourage others there. Through his love of farming he continued to grow a bountiful garden, which he loved to share with others. Whenever he got the chance he would help other farmers on the road with the caring and harvesting of their crops. Harvey was a member of the Caribou Masonic Lodge No. 170 A.F.& A.M., a past member of DeMoley and Dad Advisor of the Caribou chapter. He was a member of the Caribou United Baptist Church, where he was always cooking for different occasions, along with his wife Carolyn. He also served as an usher and loved to sing in the Living Christmas Tree. Harvey married Carolyn (DeMerchant) Kelley on Aug. 28, 1964. Surviving in addition to his wife of Caribou, are his three children, Donald Ralph “Donnie” Kelley of Caribou, Jonathan Kelley and his wife, Louise, of Waynesboro, Pa., and Kimberly Elaine Kelley of Caribou; a very special granddaughter, Desiree Dawn Kelley, who was always by his side and loved “GeGe”; his brother, Robert Kelley and his wife, Helen, of Caribou; two brothers-in-law, Gary and Jan DeMerchant of Peabody, Mass., and Wayne and Debbie Nichols of Cross Lake; two sisters-in-law, Shirley and Vernie Oakes of Bristol, Conn., and Donna and William LaRue of Richmond; his mother-in-law, Helen DeMerchant of Fort Fairfield; an uncle and aunt Spurgeon and Letha Sisson of Woodstock, New Brunswick; his nieces and nephews whom he loved very much and thought of as his own, especially when he taught most of them to drive, pick potatoes and other work ethic of the farm, Stephen Chike, Rodney Nichols, Kathy McGlaughlin, Amy Kelley, Carrie Lee, Ricky Schwagan, Butchie, Stephen and Eric Oakes, Debbie Cousins, Carmen Cullen, Bobby Verne and Sherry, Mark and Timmy DeMerchant; and a special family friend, Mary Ouellette of Caribou, and her children. He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Colleen Rae “Cookie” Nichols; a foster brother, Harold “Skish” Ouellette; a very special niece, Tammy Rae Verne and grandnephew, Sean Amos Lee. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, with evening Masonic services being held at 7 p.m. by the officers and members of the Caribou Masonic Lodge. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2004, from the Caribou United Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lawrence Beals and Rev. Otto Palmer, co-officiating.
