ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. and BUCKSPORT – Mrs. Joyce Elaine (Bridges) Simpson-Cyr, 73, the wife of Edmund A. Cyr, Sr., died July 1, 2004, at a Zephyrhills, Fla., healthcare facility after a long struggle with respiratory illness. She was born April 5, 1931, in Guilford, a daughter of Stanley and Florence (Mayo) Bridges. Joyce grew up in Guilford and Parkman. She settled in Castine, with her first husband Harry D. Simpson and together they created a new business, The Simpson Trailer Park. She also served as the Head Finance Manager for Maine Maritime Academy, Castine, retiring after 25 years. She was a member of the Rebekah’s, Castine, and the Castine Grange 250. She enjoyed spending time at camp and on her pond in Bucksport. Later, Joyce and her second husband, Edmund, ventured to Zephyrhills, Fla., creating a new home and life. She loved to travel and she and Ed had many adventures exploring new places together. She also enjoyed her swimming pool, flea markets, and playing cards. She and Ed were members of the Brewer Eagles Club. She will be sadly missed by her Oaks Royal Park family and friends. Joyce loved and reached out to all people. Her family and friends were the most important thing in her life. She was a force that kept generations within her family linked together. “Grammie Joyce,” as many knew her by, took the greatest joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her nieces and nephews. She loved us all and even with her very last words, “Please don’t cry,” she was watching over us. ”G’by Grammie Joyce-you now are in heaven with Baron and Miss Alley!” In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Harry David Simpson in January of 1988; her special brother-in-law, Ted Tobias; and her beloved Doris and Harvey Wilder. Joyce leaves her husband of 15 years, Edmund A. Cyr Sr. In addition, she is survived by her daughter, Nancy and son in-law, Richard Ginn; her stepchildren, Edmund Jr., Ann and Mike Cyr, Sharon and Philip Soucie; her grandchildren, Shane and Julie Ginn, Colleen (Ginn) and Robert Wotring, Eric and Tim Soucie. She will be sadly missed by her great-grandchildren, Casey and Jesse Ginn and Alec Wotring; her three sisters and brothers in-law, Janice Tobias, Ruthie and Chet Grindell, Carolyn and Walter Dickison; her one brother and sister-in-law, Merrill and Lorene Bridges; her special nieces and nephews, Brenda, Laurie, Anne, Carla, Susan, David, Andy, Cindy, Linda, Jenny, Debbie, Judy, Cheryl, Scott, Diana, Charlie; and many precious grandnieces and nephews. She also leaves her precious bird, Christy. A graveside memorial service will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 2004, at the Castine Cemetery, Castine, with Pastor Peter Remick officiating.
