HAZEL MARIE MAPLETON MILBRIDGE and GOULDSBORO – Hazel Marie Mapleton, 91, of Gouldsboro, formerly of Milbridge, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, at Narraguagus Bay Health Care Facility, Milbridge. She was born Sept. 8, 1916, in Boston, the daughter of the late Thomas and Hazel (Stillings) Powers. Mrs. Mapleton worked as a charge nurse before and during World War II in several Massachusetts hospitals, and late volunteered as a school nurse in Reading, Mass. She left nursing to dedicate her time and talents to her family. She was gifted at a variety of crafts including, knitting, sewing and cooking. Hazel was a proficient carpenter and electrician and was instrumental with helping her husband around the home. Her hobbies led her to being very instrumental into the growth and rise in St. Michael’s Church, Cherryfield, where she was a communicant since the mid 1970s. She was a member of the Lay Franciscan Order. She was described as feisty, but was also considered warm and generous, and loving her family and friends. She shared 56 years of marriage with the late Robert Allen Mapleton, who died in 1999. Hazel will be sadly missed by her son, Thomas Mapleton of Prospect Harbor; a daughter, Georgiana Madanian of London; two grandchildren, Maryhaze Madanian and Kevork Madanian, both of London; and several nieces, aunts, uncles; and a nephew, Richard Barry of New Hampshire. She was predeceased by a young daughter, Karen Mapleton; and a sister, Eileen Barry. A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, School Street, Cherryfield, with Father Marc Nolette as principal, celebrant. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Spring burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Milbridge.
