PRESQUE ISLE – Hazel Victoria (Little) Clark, 99, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2005, in Presque Isle after a short illness. She was born Nov. 20, 1905, in Caribou, the third of 13 children, to George William Little and Mary Ethel (Searles) Little. Hazel was a twin, the other baby girl dying at birth, a fact she did not know until well into her 80’s. At the age of 12 she went to Fort Fairfield to work for the Willard and Ellen (Briggs) Clark family as a housekeeper. While there she met her future husband, Chester. Hazel and Chester Wilton Clark married on March 13, 1923. Hazel and Chester had three biological children, the first a girl, dying at pre-term birth, a son, and a daughter. They adopted a second girl, her sister’s daughter, when her sister died shortly after having the baby. Hazel is survived by three children, son Arthur and wife, Jean Clark, of Presque Isle; daughters, Elrita Bell of Bradenton, Fla. and Presque Isle and Mary Hafford of Eagle Lake; youngest sister, Dora Bell of Presque Isle; grandchildren, Donna Lisnik, Barbara Nardone, Carol Bell, Francine Mosher, and Joel Clark of Presque Isle, Ronda Bohovich of Candia, N.H., Alena Sibley of Bangor, Sherry Huntley of Columbia, Ind., and Stanley Wade Hafford of Eagle Lake; 16 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive her. She was predeceased by her parents.
