BUCKSPORT – Helen G. Gott passed away peacefully July 15, 2005, at a Bangor healthcare facility. Helen Genesta Atwood was born April 16, 1921, in Waltham, Mass., the only child of Richard E. and Maud R. (Brewster) Atwood. Helen attended Bucksport schools, graduating from Bucksport High School, Class of 1939. An important part of her life was her 68-year membership in the Elm Street Congregational Church. Growing up in Bucksport created some of her fondest memories and established many life-long friendships. Her family was very special to her and over the years, she prepared many Thanksgiving feasts and July 4th picnics as a way to show her love. In earlier years, she and her husband, Charles, were avid campers and supporters of the Grange. She was very active in her church and the Bucksport Senior Citizen center, and listening to music every evening brought her a lot of joy. Helen was predeceased by Robert A. Sherwood, her first husband and father of her children; and by her husband of 44 years, Charles Edward Gott, who passed away in 1998. Helen is survived by her children, Stephen Sherwood and his partner, Jane, of Sarasota, Fla., Brenda MacDonald of Dedham, Paul Sherwood and his wife, Dorothy, of Orland, and Fred Sherwood and his wife, Glenis, of Hermon. She is also survived by grandchildren, Gigi Sherwood, Stephen Sherwood, Robert Moore, Douglas Moore, Ricky Moore, Denise Willis, Dawn MacDonald, Rob Sherwood, Keri Johnson, Corey Sherwood and Adam Sherwood; plus several great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at the Elm Street Congregational Church in Bucksport conducted by the Rev. Linda Smith, whom she loved dearly.
