NEWBURGH and BREWER Helen “Gram” A. Babcock, 91, died Nov. 29, 2007, in Newburgh, at the home of her son, Clyde. She was born Dec. 20, 1915, in Brewer, the daughter of Lindsey and Jessie (Dickinson) Seeley. Helen graduated from Brewer High School. In 1936 she married Closten Babcock. She was a hard-working farm wife with her husband and together they operated a dairy farm in Newburgh for many years, and raised their three sons there. Gram enjoyed gardening and writing poetry about outdoor nature. She was employed with Bangor Mental Health for many years, retiring in 1975. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Closten, in 1984; her son, Roy, in 2000; sisters, Winifred Rowland and Hazel Gott; and brothers, Linwood and Howard Seeley. Surviving are two sons, Irvan Babcock and his wife, Estelle, of Orlando, Fla., and Clyde Babcock and his wife, Donna, of Newburgh; six grandsons, including a special grandson, Scott, who cared for her in her home; five granddaughters, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Helen was known as “Gram” to many in the community. The family expresses their appreciation for the help and services of Community Health and Counseling Services Hospice. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, with the Rev. Robert T. Carlson officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 10 a.m. until time of service Wednesday. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer.
