HAMPDEN – Helen Louise (Wing) Libby, 83, passed away July 2, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. She was born June 9, 1921, in Hampden, the daughter of Austin Benson Wing Sr. and Doris (Patterson) Wing. A longtime Hampden resident, Helen graduated with honors from Hampden Academy in 1939. She was a member and Past Worthy Matron of Star in the East Chapter No. 17 Order of Eastern Star of Hampden, and a former member of the Country View Golf Club of Brooks and the Hampden Country Club. She is survived by her children, Thomas R. Libby and his wife, Lois, of Newburgh, Joseph A. Libby and friend, Andrea of Clinton, Jack R. Libby and his wife, Dawn, of Winterport, and Patricia L. Tibbetts and her fianc?, Brain Bowden, of Searsport; seven grandchildren, Cary, Todd, Jared, Melissa, Travis, Tricia and Keith; five great-grandchildren, Frederick, Samuel, Meagan, Libby and Erin; three sisters, Lenora I. Philbrook of Bangor, Wilma I. Eckert of Milo and Donna M. Philbrook of Newburgh; an aunt and special friend, Elsie Stormann of Stillwater; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Helen was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Irven C. Libby on March 31, 1993; her parents; and three brothers, Austin B. Wing Jr., Elwyn A. Wing and Ernest G. Wing. An Eastern Star funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, conducted by the officers of Star in the East Chapter No. 17 O.E.S. of Hampden. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Hampden Historical Society, P.O. Box 456, Hampden, ME 04444.
