ORONO – John Edward Gerrish, 65, passed away July 2, 2004, surrounded by his family. He was born Jan. 17, 1939, in Bangor, the son of the late Edward and Virginia (Wescott) Gerrish. John enjoyed golfing, dancing, and going to visit people. He especially loved being with his family at Christmas time, and to watch his son, Chris, play the guitar. Surviving are five children, Jeffery Friedman and his girlfriend, Polly Decesere, Robert Gerrish and his wife, Rita, Virginia Blier and her husband, Mark, Christopher Gerrish and his girlfriend, Rita Wisehart, and Scott Gerrish and his wife, Michelle; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sister, Marion Donnelly; two nieces; two nephews; the family pets, Coco and Zing. He was predeceased by his wife, Rachel Gerrish; two sisters; friend and mother of his children, Rose Gerrish. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A graveside will be held 12 noon Thursday July 8, 2004, at the Lake view Cemetery Route 202, Hampden, with the Rev. Dr. Rex Garrett, Director of Chaplaincy services at EMMC, officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments at 27 Schoppe Drive, Orono.
