LUBEC – Helen L. O’Brien, 78, died Feb. 26, 2004, at a Machias hospital. She was born Sept. 21, 1925, in Lubec, the daughter of Raymond and Marion (Trefry) Pushee. She was the wife of the late Julian O’Brien. She devoted much of her life to raising her six children and caring for her grandchildren. She was also affectionately called “grandma” by many of her children’s friends, as well as friends of her own. Her easy-going attitude and sense of humor were two of her most loved traits. She leaves behind three daughters, two sons and their spouses, Susan and David Melochick of Bangor, Julie and Ricky Bradley of Lubec, Kathryn and Blair Tinker of Campobello Island, New Brunswick, Herbert “Bub” and Paula O’Brien of East Millinocket, and Joseph and Julie O’Brien of Lubec. She will also be greatly missed by her 12 grandchildren, Sherry MacDonald, Michael Melochick, Gina and Ray O’Brien, Heather Babcock, Julie Mathews, Jessica Bradley, David and James O’Brien, and Louise, Blaine and Kristopher Tinker; three great-grandchildren, Michael Seavey, Rikki Leigh and Andi Jo Babcock; a sister, Harriet Allen and her husband, Wayne, of Lakeland, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Pat Pushee of Granby, Mass.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be fondly remembered by special friends, Charlotte, Kenney, Doris, Theresa and so many others. She was predeceased by her husband; two brothers, Glen and Fred; a daughter, Louise; and a great-granddaughter, Ashley Elizabeth. Per Helen’s wishes, there will be no services at this time. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Corey Cemetery, Lubec. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are in care of McClure Family Funeral Services, Lubec.
