BANGOR – Helen Mary Carson, 96, died April 8, 2004, in Bangor with dignity and grace. She was born Jan. 13, 1908, in Bangor, the daughter of William G. and Mary A. (Stone) Carson. Miss Carson was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and a member of the Maine Retired Teacher’s Association. She taught in the Bangor school system for 44 years. Surviving are four nieces, Helen Cochrane, Margaret McGill, Constance Sprague, Cynthia Coyne; two nephews, William Magee, H. Stanley Carson; four great-nieces, Kelly Cochrane, Christine Bragg, Abigail Bragg, Kathleen Sprague; seven great-nephews, Richard Cochrane, Daniel Carson, Sean, Cory, Robert and Andrew Magee, and Benjamin Sprague; one sister-in-law, Catherine Carson; a close friend, Juanita Corson. She was predeceased by three brothers, William T. Carson, Joseph H. Carson and H. Stanley Carson; and by one sister, Mary M. Magee. The family acknowledges with appreciation the staff of Engel Place at Ross Manor for their friendship and care of Helen. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Kevin Holsapple, Rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church officiating. Friends may call 10 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at Brookings-Smith. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., after the service.
