WINTER HARBOR – Helen M. Torrey, 84, wife of the late Leroy J. Torrey, died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2005, at a Milbridge healthcare facility. She was born May 14, 1921, in South Gouldsboro, the daughter of William K. and Hilda V. (Swazey) Hammond. Helen was a graduate of Winter Harbor High School, Class of 1938 and was class valedictorian. She worked at Stinson’s Seafood Company in Prospect Harbor for 37 years, and also at Radiation, Inc. in Melbourne, Fla., for 10 years. She is survived by a son, Larry A. Torrey Sr. and his wife, Brenda, of Winter Harbor; three grandchildren, Vicki Timmons and her husband, Ray, of Winter Harbor, Larry A. Torrey Jr. and his wife, Kris, of Westbrook and Barbara Bragdon; seven great-grandchildren, Sarah, Rachel, Angela, Mike, Elizabeth, Emily and Benjamin; and one great-great-grandson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Graveside funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5 at Greenwood Cemetery, Winter Harbor, with the Rev. James Renwick officiating.
