PRESQUE ISLE- Helen R. Mahany, 101, wife of the late James Mahany, died Dec. 3, 2003, at her residence. She was born in Mapleton, Sept. 1, 1902, the daughter of Frederick and Elizabeth (Wilcox) Rediker. A year later her parents moved to Washburn where she grew up and was educated in the Washburn schools and attended two summer sessions at Aroostook State Normal School. She taught school in the surrounding areas for seven years before turning to nursing. Mrs. Mahany owned and operated a small licensed Nursing Home until her retirement in 1970. She was a member of the Full Gospel Assembly in Presque Isle where she taught Sunday School for a number of years. She was a member of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union and served as their treasurer for a number of years. She was a member of the Full Gospel Ministerial Fellowship until they moved their meeting place down state. She is survived by a son, Gary Mahany and his wife, Vivian, of Presque Isle; two granddaughters, Martha Mahany and Deidre Musumeci, both of Bangor; two great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Joan Walters of Gorham. Besides her husband she was predeceased by three brothers, Freeman Rediker of Washburn, Frank Rediker of Skowhegan, Fred Rediker of South Portland; a sister, Laura Cram of Presque Isle. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Full Gospel Assembly, Dudley Street in Presque Isle with the Rev. Kevin Kierstead officiating. Friends may call from 12 p.m. until time of service at the church. Interment will be in Fairmount Cemetery. Arrangements in the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home.
