ORLAND – Herbert W. Carey, 78, passed peacefully at a Blue Hill Hospital on June 11, 2004, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Aug. 16, 1925, in Bucksport, the son of George and Evadne (White) Carey. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving from 1943-1946, where he was wounded in action and later received a Purple Heart. In his early years, Bud worked at Pratt & Whitney Co. in Connecticut, and later retired from Champion International Paper Company in Bucksport after many years of service. He was an avid gardener and loved his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marguerite (Gray) Carey of Orland; two daughters, Paula Carey-Lord and husband, Dale, of Orland, Midge (Carey) Wallace and her husband, Gregg, of Old Town; five grandchildren, Shawn Sargent and his wife, Wendy, Amanda Sargent, Luke Wallace U.S.N. and his wife, Julie, Seth Wallace, and Caleb Wallace; three great-grandchildren, Autumn Carey, D.J. Sargent and Matthew Sargent; one brother, Richard Carey of Florida; one sister, Eunice Royal and her husband, Charles, of Arizona; two sisters-in-law, Eunice “Beanie” Carey and Lois Carey, both of Florida; one brother-in-law, Ralston Gray of Orland; many well loved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Elizabeth Bowden; four brothers, Gordon “Sonny” Carey, Emerson Carey, Raymond Carey and George Carey; sister-in-law, Elaine Leach Dobbins; and brother-in-law, Dick Gray; mother and father-in-law, Evelyn and Marvin Gray. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at the Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, with Pastor Peter Remick officiating.
