PRESQUE ISLE – Kathleen “Kay” Brewer Beckwith, 81, died June 12, 2004, at a Presque Isle hospital. She was born June 15, 1922, in Presque Isle, the daughter of George and Katherine (Williams) Brewer. She was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Parish in Presque Isle. Kay attended Presque Isle schools and graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1940. Along with her husband she operated the family business, Beckwith’s Diner. Together they were franchise owners of Hertz Rent-A-Car. Throughout her life she loved and supported her husband’s passion for harness racing, proud to be the wife of an owner/driver. Predeceasing her was her husband of 45 years, Charles S. Beckwith; a baby son, Charles; a sister, Doris Freeman; a brother, Bernard Brewer; and a very special aunt, Annie Brewer. Surviving her are four daughters, Susan G. Rafferty of Exeter, N.H., Brenda L. Craig of Presque Isle, twin daughters, Joan M. Roberston of Eddington, and Jean M. McLellan and her husband, Edwin Jr., of Presque Isle; two sisters, Margaret Roope of Roanoke, Va., and Barbara Damon of Vao Beach, Va.; nine grandsons; one granddaughter; seven great-grandsons; four great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews. She will be missed by many friends and her loving family. Thank You Mum for sharing your splendid journey with us. We love you forever. Love Susan, Brenda, Joanie and Jeanie. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday at St Mary’s Catholic Church on Main Street in Presque Isle, with the Rev. Chanel Cyr celebrant. Relatives and friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of the mass at the church. Interment will be in the St Mary’s North Main Street Cemetery in Presque Isle. Those who wish may make donations in her memory to the Central Aroostook Humane Society Animal Shelter, Industrial Park, 26 Cross St., Presque Isle, ME 04769.
