JONESPORT – Horace R. “Hoddie” Chandler passed away June 22, 2007, at a Bangor hospital, after a long illness. He was born Jan. 11, 1930, in Jonesport. Horace worked more than 50 years as a fisherman before his declining health forced him to come ashore. He enjoyed listening and talking with other fisherman on his VHF Radio. Horace is survived by his five children, twin daughters, Christiana Dean and husband, Donald, of Manchester, Conn., and Christine Gilbert and husband, Gary, of Mamouth Cave, Ky., son, Farrell Chandler and wife, Dawn, daughter, Diana Sawtelle and husband, Toby, and son, Carroll Chandler and wife, Susan, all of Jonesport; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; one brother, Roland Chandler of Lincoln; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Laura (Church) Chandler; and his parents, William D. Chandler and Janie L. Norton. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 25, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Machias.
