BAILEYVILLE – Howard “Howdy” Allen, 81, passed away peacefully Sept. 20, 2006, to be with the Lord and his two sons, Mike and Arthur Allen. Howard was born May 3, 1925, in Calais, son of the late Arthur and Florence (Lee) Allen. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army on the shores of Normandy. Howard, or “Howdy” as the boys called him there, was a dedicated employee at Georgia Pacific for 32 years. He was an avid hunter and a passionate fisherman. Pocomoonshine Lake was his home away from home, with his two best friends, Ronnie Wallace and Elmer Doughty. We may never know all the stories and maybe some we shouldn’t. Howard also enjoyed dining out and a harmless joke. He was Willie Nelson’s biggest fan, because he believed you didn’t need to be a country singer to be an outlaw and you didn’t have to be an outlaw to be a man. Whenever a person couldn’t find any loyalty in this world, all they had to do was cross paths with Howard Allen and his family. Howard is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Norma Allen; two sons, Howie and Ralph Allen and his daughter-in-law, Donalda; two daughters, Paula Small and her partner, John Thompson and Shannon Allen and her fiance, Earl Stevens; grandchildren, Christopher Allen, Dawn Boire, Ryan Brown, Joshua Allan, Brandy, Amanda and Arthur Allen, Georgia Haley and Howard Small; several nieces, nephews and great-grand-children. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Rolfe Flood officiating. Burial will be after the service at Calais Cemetery. Friends may pay tribute at www.maysfuneralhome.com
