STOCKTON SPRINGS – Howard Lewis Ruben, 86, of Stockton Springs, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at a local health care facility. He was born to Isac and Bessy (Ames) Ruben in Bangor, Aug. 26, 1918. They moved to Belfast when he was a child. Howard worked and ran I.W. Ruben Salvage, then became a grocer at B&R Store in Belfast and the Colonial Grocery in Searsport. He then went to work as a tax assessor in Searsport and later Stockton Springs where he was employed at the time of his death. Howard loved to ride his old Ford tractor and hay his fields at the house. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister, Molly Ruben Aronofsky and husband, Julius of Dallas, Texas; brothers, Max Ruben of Saco and Pompano Beach, Fla. and George Joseph Ruben of Memphis, Tenn. Howard is survived by his wife of 51 years, Norma Ruben; stepdaughter, Judith Warren and husband, Donald of Stockton Springs; grandson, Michael Warren of Stockton Springs; granddaughter, Deborah Flood and husband, Roland, of Belfast; four great-grandchildren, nephews, Bruce Ruben and wife, Ellen of Cape Elizabeth, Matthew Ruben and wife, Nancy of Fairfield, Conn., Stewart Ruben and wife, Sharon of Mount Vernon, N.Y. and William Ruben of Memphis, Tenn.; nieces, Ellen Cole and husband, Bryan of Silver Springs, Md., Sharon Weltman and husband, Jerry of Baton Rouge, La. and Beth R. Banes of Florida. A memorial service will be held 12 noon Friday, June 10th at the Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
