ORONO – Howard Stuart Mosher, 53, died unexpectedly July 13, 2006, at a Bangor hospital, after a heart attack. He was born Jan. 18, 1953, in Doylestown, Pa., the third son of Stuart and Dorothy (Fricke) Mosher. He was a graduate of The Hill School, Pottstown, Pa. and the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. Howard worked for many years at Maine Public Broadcasting in Bangor. He was the webmaster at the University of Maine, Orono at the time of his death. A life-long bachelor, Howard was a gentle man who was beloved of animals, small children and women the world over. His basic philosophy can be summed up in this fashion: “Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming… ‘Wow! What a ride!’” To that end, he pursued art, aviation, fishing, friendship, knowledge, photography and sea kayaking with fervor. Howard did not suffer fools gladly. He found politics and politicians utterly distasteful. Howard had great knowledge, which he shared in his humble fashion. He treated every person and being with the respect they were due. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Howard is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, William and Tammi Mosher of Glenburn; his goddaughter Jordan Ecker; his very special friends, Jim, Janet and Jamie Ecker of Brewer and Lee, Sari, Hilary and Devin Ohmart, also of Brewer; and his feline companion of the past 12 years, Lexy. He was predeceased by his parents; and his brother, Dr. Richard Mosher. There will be no funeral or interment services, in accordance with Howard’s wishes. As a flaming, floating, funeral pyre is out of the question in this day and age, a remembrance gathering will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 21, at Lakeside Landing, Lake Pushaw, off the Pushaw Road, Glenburn. This will be a time to share memories and swap stories about Howard between friends. Please bring lawn chairs or blankets. You are welcome to bring a picnic lunch and stay to enjoy the lake with us afterwards. No flowers needed. If you wish, make a donation in Howard’s memory to the Maine Island Trail Association, 58 Fore St., Building 30, Third Floor, Portland, ME 04101. Arrangements by Memorial Alternatives, 205 Center St., Bangor.
