SWANVILLE – Howard William Clark, 87, the husband of Barbara R. (Thayer) Clark, passed away unexpectedly July 6, 2005, at his home on Swan Lake. He was born Sept. 23, 1917, in Sanford, the son of Walter H. and Venie (McNeal) Clark. Howard was a graduate of Sanford High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in the 103rd Infantry Division in the Pacific Theater. He and his family lived in Rye, N.H., for many years, during which time he worked at Pease Air Force Base as a civil engineer and was foreman of the central heating plant, retiring in 1972. Howard was a member of Springvale Masonic Lodge No. 190 AF & AM of Springvale. His greatest enjoyment in life came from spending time with his family, the good times at Swan Lake and the 10 winters he and Barbara spent in Palm City, Fla., with their daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Dana. Howard was very proud of his family, and will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle. Howard is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Barbara of Swanville; daughter, Janet Clark Young and her husband, Dana; and granddaughter, Wendy Cogdill and her husband, Del; and grandson, Michael Young, all of Dover, N.H.; daughter, Nancy Clark Foster and her husband, Randy, of Belmont, grandson, Adam Clark Foster and his wife, Debi, and great-grandsons, Alexander Clark Foster and Jacob Edward Foster, all of Hancock; and grandson, Todd Randall Foster of Belmont. Howard was dearly loved by his sisters-in-law, Marjorie Bowen, Adele Clark and Edith Hunter; and devoted nieces and nephews, David, Bob, and Judy H., Paul, Clark, Judy T., Ann, Dale, Barbara, Patsy and Suzanne. He was predeceased by two sisters; and five brothers. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m., Sunday at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden, with the Rev. Dr. Debra J. Hanson, pastor of the Hampden Highlands United Methodist Church, officiating. A time of visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. Sunday.
